From Bold Structure to Soft Romance: Transforming a Tropical Wedding Invitation Suite
When Anna and Randel began exploring wedding invitations, they weren’t looking for something completely custom from scratch. Like most couples, they were searching for something that felt close.
And they found a design that immediately stood out.
This suite had a strong architectural presence. A structured gatefold layout, layered panels, intricate laser-cut detailing, and bold tropical foliage in warm gold tones.
It made a statement, and that’s exactly what initially drew them in.
What They Were Drawn To
Rather than choosing the design as-is, Anna and Randel were drawn to specific elements:
- the tropical foliage and overall aesthetic
- the richness of the palette
- the dimensional, layered feel
These became the foundation of the design direction.
Refining the Direction
As we talked through their vision, it became clear that while they loved the vibe, they wanted to shift how it was expressed.
They were looking for something:
- softer and more romantic
- lighter in tone
- less complex in structure
- more refined in its overall finish
To help guide that shift, we pulled together a visual direction.
The moodboard focused on translating the original inspiration into something more aligned with their wedding:
- softer, neutral tones instead of bold golds
- light, airy layering rather than structured panels
- transparency through vellum
- subtle metallic accents through foil instead of heavy detailing
This step is where everything starts to come together. It bridges the gap between “I like this” and “this is what it’s becoming.”
The Design Transformation
From there, the changes became very intentional:
- the laser-cut structure was removed to simplify the layout
- foil was introduced for a cleaner, more elevated detail
- vellum layering brought in softness and movement
- the palette was lightened to create a more romantic feel
Instead of building dimension through structure, we built it through materials and layering.
